Site 1: Main Street Bridge.

This site is located on the Ventura River just below the Main Street bridge. This site is above marine influence from the nearby estuary. The site is accessed by foot, from the public parking lot next to the bike path on Main Street, and one has to hike under the bridge, through the river basin to reach the flowing portion of the waterway. Keep an eye out for many of the local homeless live below the bridge, and in the surrounding underbrush, so watch your feet for glass, human waste, and needles! The river basin here is wide and delta-like, a mix of sandy soils, willows and large patches of non-native Arundo. During heavy storms this whole basin will flood and the site will be scoured by the raging waters. During heavy flow water samples can be pulled from the bridge.
